DR IV Self-Unloading Hopper

Novelty 2022: In the 1920s of the last century, the German State Railroad received the first self-unloading hopper cars for transporting ballast to track construction sites. The most important innovation on the cars was an ingenious system of flaps and chutes that allowed the loaded ballast to be distributed very selectively next to and between the rails. PIKO placed the greatest focus on this important feature in the design of the new hopper cars, thus creating a model with very high play value. As with the prototype, sand and fine gravel can be distributed via different flaps.
